Vista Beta 2 - Windows Photo Gallery crashes a lot

I bugged this, but to let everyone know....

I was playing around with Windows Photo Gallery today. It really has some very nice features; I started to think this will be a very good app.

However,
today I took about 100 "indoor pictures", and went through each on fixing redeye and doing the automatic correction. Even if I just did redeye fix, it would crash - a lot. Sometimes every photo. Sometimes, it would restart, about 1/4th the time it would force a close and for me to restart it. Sometimes, it would go about 10 photos before it crashed.

I have not had any other reliability problems with Vista Beta 2 so far, and the photos were not corrupted in any way. But if you test it out make a copy of your photos first just to be safe...

No crashes here, I have about 175 images in my gallery, I have fixed, exported, cropped, opened in third party image programs and no problems. Are there any error messages displayed when the crash occurrs? I am wondering to myself if it could be the Volume Shadow Service on your system that could be causing this. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I'll try disabling it (Just stop the Volume Shadow Service?) the next time I have a bunch of pictures to upload from my camera..

Yeah, stop it, and see if the issue stops occuring. Report back. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Andre and Don,
Thanks
for writing in with your issues and suggestions. I am glad to see you like many of the features in the photo gallery. We are working to improve the functionality everyday!
Please let us know if Andre's suggestion fixes your problem. Meanwhile we will investigate here at Microsoft.
Happy photo taking!

I just ran through another pile of photos. Before I started, I noticed that the Volume Shadow Service was not running but was set on manual. I thought that the Photo Gallery must use the Volume service, so to be safe I disabled it. Was that correct?
I ran through about 50 photos with no problem! But I am not sure if that was coincidence, or was disabling Vol.ume Service helpful in that the Photo Gallery uses that service. Does it?

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem - as soon as I load PG and select a command it crashes out and shuts down with the usual error report to msoft. It looks like a nice feature so I would love to get it up and running. -- cazmo
